Caja, pan y magdalenas ::: Box, bread and cupcakes

Tenía ganas de hacer una caja por dos razones: para practicar el uso de la entretela y para organizar mis trastos. Las telas son superalegres y las compré en el mercadillo de Benicalap en Valencia sin mucha idea de qué hacer con ellas. La entretela es de Hobbycraft y creo que de este tipo no la compraré más jeje. Es de la dura, de la que no se pega a la tela y cuesta la vida manejarla. De todas formas estoy contenta con el resultado y la caja ya está en la estantería del baño.

I wanted to make a box for two reasons: to practice using interfacing and organize my stuff. The fabrics are very bright, I bought them at the flea market from Benicalap in Valencia without no idea of what to do with them. The interfacing is from Hobbycraft and I think I will not buy anymore of this type hehe. It's the heavy one, which does not fuse to the fabric and it is very difficult to handle it. Anyway I am happy with the result and the box is already on the shelf in the bathroom.

 

Mariano sigue con sus experimentos panaderos y se supera cada vez. Hoy hemos comido pan rústico, rico, rico.

Mariano continues baking bread and every time gets better. Today we had country bread, delicious!

Ya que teníamos puesto el horno he aprovechado para hacer magdalenas. La receta es del supermercado Asda, y es que me encanta coleccionar recetas de revistas. Son las mejores que he probado de momento, esponjositas y jugosas. Pongo el link a la revista aquí, si no se ve correctamente decídmelo por favor y la copio. Por cierto la tetera que aparece en la foto la hemos comprado este fin de semana en una escapada que os contaré en el próximo post. Que tengáis una buena semana.

Now we had the oven on I used it to make some cupcakes. The recipe is from Asda, I love collecting recipes from magazines. They are the best I have tasted so far, fluffy and juicy. By the way, have you seen that gourgeous teapot in the picture? We have bought it last weekend during one or our trips but I will tell you about it in the next post. Have a nice week.

The Creative Craft Show Manchester

Hace unas semanas compré un par de entradas para este evento en wowcher, una web estilo groupon, etc. Nos acercamos ayer y la verdad que de patchwork había poca cosa, la mayoría de stands eran de scrapbooking y de abalorios. Aun así compré algunas cosillas.

I bought a pair of tickets for this event in wowcher a few weeks ago. We went yesterday and I am afraid there wasn't much patchwork stuff, most of the stands sold scrapbooking or beading supplies. Anyway, I managed to buy a couple of things.

Mis compras: un kit para un bolso country y 3 revistas por 2 libras, no sé qué me pasa ultimamente pero estoy enganchada a las revistas. Aprovechando que estamos en Manchester pasamos por Abakhan, una tienda de de telas y mercería. Compramos telas al peso para algo que nos tiene muy liados y que mostraré dentro de poco, lanas y agujas para nuestra clase del próximo sábado para aprender a hacer punto, y unas pinzas muy apañadas para sujetar los quilts al acolchar. Ayer mismo recibimos también unas tijeras que pedí por amazon, no se equivocaban en los foros, van muy bien, mucho mejor que las otras que tengo que muerden en vez de cortar, ya tocaba comprarme unas buenas.

I bought one kit to make a country style bag and 3 magazines for 2 pounds, I am not sure what's wrong with me but I can't get enough magazines lately.  While we were in Manchester we went to Abakhan, a fabric store and haberdashery. We bought fabrics by weight for something that have kept us quite busy and I will show shortly, yarn and knitting needles for our next class on Saturday to learn to knit, and some useful tweezers to hold the quilts while quilting. Yesterday we also received some scissors that I bought through amazon, they were right in the forums, they work very well, much better than the others that I have that bite instead of cutting, definitely a good purchase.

Para acabar que esto ya va siendo largo, en estas semanas Mariano ha hecho una chapata y pan de pita, y sin panificadora ni nada, con sus manitas, bien rico que estaba.

To finish this, sorry but it seems quite long today, in the past weeks Mariano has made a ciabatta and pita bread without the breadmaker or anything, just with his hands from scratch, it was delicious.

Shrewsbury

Siguiendo con nuestras excursiones este fin de semana hemos visitado Shrewsbury. Sinceramente no tenía ni idea de la existencia de esta ciudad pero nos ha sorprendido gratamente. Aquí nació y vivió Charles Darwin. El centro tiene un trazado medieval plagado de edificios Tudor. Hay un castillo, una abadía y un parque precioso a orillas del río Severn.

Continuing with our weekend trips we visited Shrewsbury yesterday. Honestly, I had no idea of ​​the existence of this town but we were pleasantly surprised. Charles Darwin was born and raised here. The center has a medieval layout full of Tudor buildings. There is a castle, an abbey and a lovely park on the banks of the River Severn.

La oficina de turismo está situada en Rowley's House, edificio donde también hay un museo, y entre restos romanos y exposiciones de Darwin estaba este tapiz bordado.

The tourist office is located at Rowley's House, a building which also has a museum, and between Roman and Darwin exhibitions was this embroidery tapestry.

Y yo, ¿qué he hecho esta semana? Pues poca cosa la verdad, he retomado mi quilt de Nueva York, sigo peleándome con mi puff de trapillo y hoy he tuneado un marco sosillo que compré por una libra con un lazo que venía con la revista Mollie Makes (otra vez). A ver si esta semana es un poco más productiva.

And , what have I done this week? Well, not much, I picked up my quilt from New York, I'm fighting with my jumbo croched pouff and today I have revamped a plain frame that I bought for one pound with a bow that came with Mollie Makes magazine (again). Let's see if this week is a bit more productive.

Chester

El domingo pasado visitamos Chester, una ciudad preciosa. Andamos por sus murallas, vimos el segundo reloj más famoso de Inglaterra y entramos en su catedral. Para mi sorpresa lo que más me llamó la atención no fue ninguno de sus monumentos, sino lo que vi en la catedral.

We visited Chester last Sunday, a beautiful town. We walked on its walls, saw the second most famous clock of England and visited the cathedral. To my surprise, what struck me most was not any of the monuments but what I saw in the cathedral.

 

Había cientos de cojines bordados a mano, así que alguien ha estado trabajando duro. Me hace gracia porque hace un tiempo no me hubiera dado cuenta de estas cosas. En mi caso yo no he estado trabajando muy duro pero algo he conseguido hacer. Os pongo la foto de la guirnalda que hice para la cocina hace unas semanas.

There were hundred of hand embroidered cushions, so somebody has been working hard. It's funny because I would not have noticed these things a while ago. In my case I have not been working very hard but I managed to do something. This is the picture of the bunting I made for the kitchen a few weeks ago.

 

Hoy he cosido el kit que venía de regalo con la revista Mollie Makes de este mes. Al final me he suscrito a ésta y a Simply Crochet. También sigo liada con mi puff de trapillo, parece el tapiz de Penélope, lo hago y lo deshago, a ver si lo termino y pongo fotos.

Today I sewed the gift that came with Mollie Makes magazine this month. At the end I've subscribed to it and Simply Crochet. I'm also busy with my jumbo crochet pouf, it seems like Penelope's tapestry, I do some stiches and I undo them later, hopefully I will finish it soon and share some pictures.

Primavera ::: Spring

Ya que parece que la nueva estación no quiere salir a la calle me la he traido a casa con estos preciosos narcisos. Los cogí en la cola del supermercado, un ramillete sin florecer por una libra. Una buena inversión que queda genial con el nuevo jarrón de ikea. Llevaba mucho tiempo con ganas de una jarra de latón a lo retro y ya está en casa.

As it seems that the new season does not want to go out I have decided to bring it home with these gourgeous daffodils. I took them while I was queuing in the supermarket, a bunch for one pound. Quite a good investment for my new ikea jug. I have been looking for a vintage jar for a while and now it is at home.

Y más cosas nuevas, ya ha llegado mi nuevo móvil directo de Japón gracias a Ebay (y a Paypal claro). No me gustaban nada los teléfonos que veía por ahí, me parecen muy sosos e impersonales, y buscando por internet apareció esta monada. En cuanto lo saqué de la caja me puse a pensar en hacer una funda para que no se raye y este es el resultado.

And more new stuff, I has just received my new mobile phone directly from Japan thanks to Ebay (and of course Paypal). I was looking for a smartphone but I did not like any that I saw around, I found them plain and impersonal, and this cute thing appeared while browsing. As soon as I took it out of its box I started thinking in a pouch to protect it and this is the result.

De esta misma tela hace unas semanas hice una guirnalda para la cocina. Quité la horrible y sucia cortina de encaje que teníamos y dejé la guirnalda como adorno y así tenemos más luz. Las fotos no son muy buenas así que compartiré unas nuevas en el próximo post.

I made a bunting for the kitchen from the same fabric a few weeks ago. I removed the awful and dirty lacy curtain and just put the bunting to decorate and have more light at the same time. The pictures were not very good so I will take some new ones and will share them in my next post.

Decoración para tiesos ::: Decorating on a shoestring

Cuando alquilas no quieres invertir mucho dinero en la vivienda, o al menos ese es mi caso, pero al mismo tiempo también quieres darle tu toque personal a la casa. Además me he propuesto acumular los mínimos trastos posibles esta vez y me da rabia comprar cosas que ya tengo, aunque sea en España. Total que he hecho lo que he podido con lo que tenía a mano, a saber: bakers twine (que está tan de moda) y unas postales de Mollie Makes (cómo no).

If you rent you do not want to spend lots of money on the property, or at least that is my case, but at the same time you want to give it your personal touch. Moreover, I have decided to accumulate the minimum junk possible and I hate to buy things that I already have, no matter if they are in Spain. So I have done my best with what I had: bakers twine (so in vogue) and some postcards from Mollie Makes (I know).

 

 Y siguiendo con revistas, he hecho un collar lazo de crochet del último número de Simply Crochet. Se hace muy rápido pero la próxima vez lo haré de algodón, porque con lana se queda como con pelusilla.

And talking of magazines, I have made the bow necklace from the last issue of Simply Crochet. It is really quick to make but next time I will use cotton instead of wool because it looks a bit fluffy.

Seguimos disfrutando de nuestra panificadora, tanto que seguramente estaremos más gorditos jeje. Pero mirad que buena pinta tenía el pan de semillas que hicimos.

We are still enjoying our breadmaker and I am afraid that we have put some weight on, but watch out how nice our seed bread looked.

 

Por último, hoy hemos hecho nuestro homenaje personal a las fallas desayunando unos ricos buñuelos caseros. Los próximos nos los comeremos en España dentro de poco.

¡Nuestras cosas! Our stuff!!

Por fin han llegado nuestras cosas. Ha sido como navidad, porque después de tanto tiempo ya ni sabíamos lo que teníamos en las cajas jeje. Así que ya no tengo excusa para seguir crafteando. Sigo con mi puff de trapillo. Por cierto, tened en cuenta que los ovillos de hooked que vienen con el kit milano no tienen nada que ver con los que se compran sueltos, los sueltos son el doble de grandes. Estos últimos los compré en sticher, una web con muy buenos precios y mejor servicio.

We have received our stuff at last. It felt like Christmas because we could not remember what we had in the boxes after so long. So there is no excuse to carry on crafting. I am still working in my hoooked pouf. By the way, keep in mind that the spools in the milano kit are half the size of the spare ones. I bought my last ones in sticher website, it has great prices and even better customer service.

 

Estaba esperando tener la máquina de coser para hacer el proyecto que venía de regalo con el último número de la revista Mollie Makes. Es un monedero con boquilla. Nunca había hecho ninguno y veía muy complicado eso de la boquilla. Me ha venido muy bien para practicar y he aprendido un par de cosas: no se debe pintar el revés de tela plastificada con rotulador (aunque sea de los que se van con agua) y hay que centrar bien la boquilla...

I was waiting to get my sewing machine to make the project included in the latest issue of Mollie Makes. It is a clasp purse. I have never made any and I have always thought that it would be quite complicated. It has been a great start and I have learnt a couple of things, do not mark the wrong side of oilcloth with a felt-tipped pen (even watermarker) and the clasp should be well positioned...

 

Me he vuelto aficionada a las charity shops, tiendas de segunda mano llevadas por voluntarios cuyos beneficios van a parar a distintas ONGs. Mi última adquisición ha sido una panificadora. Llevaba un montón de tiempo con el antojo pero no me lanzaba por el precio. En la tienda de British Heart Foundation encontré una por 15 libras y no me pude resistir. Aunque es muy gratificante hacer tu propio pan, todo natural, la casa huele de maravilla, me temo que esto va a repercutir muy pronto en mi peso jeje. Las fotos no son muy buenas, las hice de noche, y es que el pan tarda sus 4 horitas, pero no me iba a quedar sin echarle fotos a mi primera pieza.

I have become a regular customer of charity shops. My last purchase was a breadmaker. I have been thinking about getting one for a long time but I have not done it due to the price. When I found one for only 15 pounds in the British Heart Foundation shop I did not give it a second thought. Although it is rewarding baking your own bread I am afraid that my weight is going to be affected quite soon. The pics are not very good because I took them late at night , it takes about 4 hours to make bread but I have to capture my first loaf.
