Vestido Burda 1/17 ::: Burda dress 1/17

Vámonos de boda! Este año hemos tenido una boda familiar muy esperada y me he atrevido a hacerme el vestido. El modelo elegido ha sido el vestido 112 del Burda de enero.

Wedding party! We were looking forward to a family wedding this year and I decided to sew my dress. I chose the 112 dress from the January edition of Burda magazine.

Me compré la revista por este modelo precisamente. Me encantaron los volantes y es que este año están por todas partes. Le hice algunas modificaciones al patrón: mangas francesas y bolsillos en las costuras. Por cierto que mi madre estaba horrorizada con eso de añadir bolsillos a un vestido fino pero yo creo que tampoco se notaban y son muy prácticos. Para hacer los bolsillos seguí este fantástico tutorial de Megan Nielsen.

I specifically bought the magazine for this pattern. I loved the flounces which seem to be everywhere this year. I made a couple of alterations: 3/4 sleeves and seam pockets. By the way, my mother was shocked with the idea of adding pockets to a smart dress but I do not think you could tell and they really useful. I followed this great tutorial by Megan Nielsen for the pockets.

Vestido amplio ::: Loose fitting dress

En el 2014, de vuelta de Lyon compré esta revista en el aeropuerto. Que conste que yo ni papa de francés, pero los modelos son japoneses: sencillos y con diagramas.

In 2014, on my way back from Lyon I bought this magazine at the airport. I cannot speak French but the patterns are Japanese: simple and with diagrams.

La única modificación que le he hecho al patrón han sido las mangas, las he alargado para este clima inglés, porque si no poco me lo iba a poner. La tela es de Tomato en Tokio. Sí, todavía me quedan telas de allí, me traje una maleta llena ;)

I have just altered the sleeve length to make it more wearable for the British weather. The fabric is from Tomato Tokyo. Yes, I still have fabric left from my trip to Tokyo, I brought an extra suitcase full of it ;)

Hasta me he hecho una cinta para el pelo compañera con el tutorial de Mollie Makes.

I have even sewn a matching headband following the Mollie Makes tutorial.

El vestido es comodísimo. Ahora en invierno lo llevo con jersey y leggings.

Bolsa para las pinzas ::: Clothespin bag

Las tareas del hogar son un rollo así que hay que darles vidilla de alguna manera. En este caso concreto, he hecho una bolsa- riñonera para las pinzas de la ropa bien vistosa.

Household chores are boring, so you have to find ways of making them more bereable. In this case, I have made an old fashioned bag for the clothespin using bright fabrics.

La tela del bolsillo la compré durante nuestra luna de miel en Sydney, en Morris &Sons. La tela roja creo que la compré en Valencia, en el mercado de Benicalap.

I bought the pocket fabric from Morris &Sons, Sydney, during our honeymoon. I think I bought the red fabric from the Benicalap market in Valencia.

He modificado el patrón original. En lugar de dejar las tiras para anudarlas, he puesto un clip y una hebilla plástico para regular el largo. Yo que me conozco, tenía claro que me iba a dar pereza anudarme la bolsa cada vez que fuera a tender. Así que he optado por la opción más rápida y cómoda. Además, de paso he aprendido otra técnica nueva. El clip y la hebilla de plástico los he comprado aquí.

I have altered the original pattern. Instead of leaving the strips to tie them at the back, I have put a plastic buckle and a slider to adjust the length. I knew for sure that I would not be tying the strips every time that I needed to hung up the clothes to dry, so I opted for the quickest and most convenient option. Besides, I have learnt a new technique. I have bought the plastic buckle and the slider here.

Blusa con cuello libro 1 Great British Sewing Bee ::: GBSB book 1 blouse with collar

Soy fan del programa The Great British Sewing Bee de la BBC, un concurso donde buscan a la mejor modista amateur, y libro que sacan, libro que me compro. Todavía no había hecho nada del primero y ya iba tocando. Así que con esta tela fina de lunares que compré en Tomato Tokio (cómo no) me puse manos a la obra.

I am a fan of the Great British Sewing Bee and I have bought all the books. It is about time to make something from the first book, so with this spotted fabric that I bought in Tomato Tokyo I made the blouse with collar.

Le he hecho un par de cambios al patrón original, mangas largas con el bies en contraste. La tela, chifón, me ha dado un poco de guerra, sobre todo el bajo, pero de todo se aprende. Para estabilizarla he utilizado spray de almidón y entretela soluble, siguiendo los sabios consejos de Momita. Sin embargo, tuve la "genial" idea de planchar el bajo con la entretela y, siendo soluble, se fundió y me ha quedado raruno. 

I have made a couple of alterations to the original pattern, long sleeves with contrast binding. It was quite tricky to handle the fabric, chiffon, especially in the hem, but it was a learning experience. To stabilise the  fabric I used starch spray and water soluble interfacing, following the expert advice from Momita. However, I had the "great" idea of pressing the hem with the interfacing and, being soluble, it melted and is far from perfect.

Falda y funda mapamundi ::: Mappa Mundi skirt and cover

Compré esta tela en Leicester sin saber muy bien qué hacer. En principio pensaba hacer un bolso pero tras ver cosas tan chulas como este vestido de peSeta pensé que una falda quedaría muy bien. Tenía el patrón desde hace tiempo, venía de regalo con la revista Sew.

I bought this fabric in Leicester not being quite sure about what to do with it. Initially, I thought about making a bag but after seeing things as cool as this dress by peSeta, I thought that a skirt would look great. I have had the pattern for some time, it came as a gift with Sew magazine.

Es la primera cinturilla que coso y ha quedado bien. También estoy contenta con la cremallera, parece que ya me llevo mejor con ellas. Aunque tengo que seguir practicando las invisibles, ya tengo algo en mente.

It is my first waistband and it looks OK. I am also happy with the zip, it seems that I am getting better with them. Although I have to keep practising the concealed ones, I already have something in mind.

La parte de atrás está un poco arrugada pero después de un día de trabajo es lo que hay. Con la tela que me ha sobrado le he hecho una funda para el portátil a Clara como parte de su regalo de cumpleaños. Espero que le guste.

I know that the back needs ironing but I took the pics after work. I have made a laptop cover for Clara with the remnants as part of her birthday present. I hope she likes it.

Túnica setentera ::: 70's tunic

Otro patrón del fantástico libro Stylish Dress Book. La tela es de Tomato, en Tokio y las fotos son del museo de ciencia, Londres. Poquito a poco me voy atreviendo a salir más en las fotos, y es que la ropa se ve mejor así, aunque no te creas tú que me hace mucha gracia...

Another pattern from the fantastic book Stylish Dress Book. The fabric is from Tomato, in Tokyo and the pictures are taken in the Science Museum, London. I am not a big fan of being in the pictures but let's face it, the clothes look better on a human being, so bear with me.

Vestidos de verano ::: Summer dresses

El año pasado me hice un par de vestidos de verano. El primero es de un libro genial, Stylish Dress Book Wear With Freedom de Yoshiko Tsukiori. Los libros de costura japoneses han sido todo un descubrimiento, con líneas sencillas y atemporales. Este ha sido el primero de varios.

 

Last year I made a couple of sundresses. The first one is from a great book, Stylish Dress Book Wear With Freedom by Yoshiko Tsukiori. Japanese sewing books have been a discovery, with simple and timeless patterns. This was the first book of several.

 

La tela lleva un estampado de encaje azul. La compré en el mercadillo de Benicalat, Valencia. Quizás no fuera una elección muy acertada, la verdad que me recuerda a los camisones de hospital jajaja. Si volviera a hacerlo creo que escogería una tela más oscura.

 

The fabric is printed with a blue lace pattern. I bought it in the market of Benicalat, Valencia. Perhaps it was not a very wise choice, the truth is that it reminds me of hospital gowns lol. If I were to sew it again, I would rather choose a darker fabric.

 

 

El segundo es más sesentero, evasé con pinzas francesas. El patrón venía con la revista Sew y la tela es de Tomato, Tokio.

 

The second one is 60's style, flared with french darts. I got the pattern with the Sew magazine and the fabric is from Tomato, Tokio.

Un bolso para Ruth ::: A bag for Ruth

Como regalo de despedida, le hice un bolso a mi compañera Ruth para su jubilación. El patrón, aunque muy sencillo, está sacado de la revista Sewing World.

As a leaving present, I made a bag for my colleague Ruth for her retirement. The pattern, although very simple, is from the Sewing World magazine.

La tela la compré en Tomato, Tokio. Las asas las tenía por ahí guardadas, creo que las compré en Fil D'Or, Valencia.

The fabric is from Tomato, Tokyo. I had the handles in my sewing stash, I think I got them from Fil D'Or, Valencia.

Siempre anda perdiendo las llaves, así que le puse un ganchito, aunque conociéndola de poco le servirá jeje. Disfruta de tu jubilación, Ruth.

Manta, cambiador y cesta para Lucía ::: Quilt, changing mat and basket for Lucía

El pasado verano nos visitaron unas buenas amigas con su bebé, Lucía, y les hice unas cositas de bienvenida.

 

Para la manta utilicé un kit de fat quarters que compré en Hobbycraft. Simplemente dividí cada fat quarter en cuadrados y los cosí de manera que los colores formaran una diagonal. Para la trasera y el borde compré telas de cuadros Vichy en rosa y violeta, también de Hobbycraft y lo acolché con líneas verticales.

 

 

The last summer some good friends visited us with their baby, Lucia, and I welcome them making a few things .

 

For the quilt I used a fat quarters kit that I bought in Hobbycraft . I simply divided each fat quarter in squares and sewed them so that the colours form a diagonal. I bought gingham fabrics in pink and violet, also from Hobbycraft, for the binding and back, and quilted it with vertical lines.

 

 

 

 

El cambiador lo hice como los anteriores, una capa de toalla y otra tela estampada, en este caso loneta de Ikea que me sobró de la funda de la máquina.

 

 

I sewed the changing mat as the other ones, a towel layer and printed fabric, in this case a canvas from Ikea that I have left when I made my sewing machine cover.

 

 

 

La cesta de crochet está hecha siguiendo el patrón de una cajita que fui aumentando. Y eso es todo de momento, tengo más cosas pendientes de publicar que iré poniendo cuando pueda.

Funda para máquina de coser ::: Sewing machine cover

Llevaba tiempo utilizando la horrible funda de plasticucho que venía con la máquina de coser, que además tiene un agujero para el asa por donde le entra polvo, vamos que ni siquiera hacía su función. Total, que después de ver fundas monísimas y curradísimas al final me decidí por este tutorial que encontré en pinterest y de momento me da el apaño y queda mucho mejor que la anterior.

 

I have been using the cheapo plastic cover that came with the sewing machine , which also has a hole for the handle where the dust gets in , so it wasn't even fit for purpose. Anyway, after seeing lots of cute and intricate covers, at the end I decided on this tutorial I found on pinterest which does the job and looks much better than the last.

Para simplificarlo no le puse cinta al bies, se cose en una tarde. Las dos telas, tanto la principal como la de los bolsillos, son de Ikea. Aquí os pongo otra foto para que se aprecie el bolsillo. La verdad que vienen muy bien, en un bolsillo he metido todas las patillas extras y en el otro unas tijeras y el descosedor.

 

To simplify it I didn't apply bias binding, it can be sewn in an afternoon. Both fabrics, the main and the pockets one, are from Ikea. Here it is another picture where you can see the pocket. They come really handy, in one pocket I keep my extra pressing feet, and in the other a pair of scissors and the seam ripper.
