Blusa de plumeti ::: Swiss dot blouse

Este post debería llamarse cómo sacar un patrón y hacer lo que te dé la gana. Empecé con un patrón de blusa sencilla sin pinzas y de cuello barco y acabé con cuello redondo, pinzas en el pecho y en la parte trasera del cuello. El patrón es de la revista Coudre c'est facile Hors-série de la que ya hice esta otra blusa. La tela de plumeti la compré en el Stitching, Sewing and Hobbycraft show en Londres el año pasado.

The title of this post should be how to get a pattern and do your own thing. I started with a simple blouse pattern without darts and boat neckline and I ended with a round neckline, bust and back neckline darts. The pattern is from the Coudre c'est facile Hors-série magazine from which I have already made this blouse. I bought the Swiss dot cotton fabric at the Stitching, Sewing and Hobbycraft show in London last year.

Camisa abotonada detrás TGBSB ::: Button-back blouse TGBSB

Cuando me compré el primer libro de la serie The Great British Sewing Bee, esta camisa fue uno de mis modelos favoritos y pensé que era una pena que no incluyera el patrón. Años más tarde, me llevé una grata sorpresa cuando la revista Love Sewing ofrecía el patrón gratis.

When I bought the first The Great British Sewing Bee book, this blouse was one of my favourite items and I was a bit disappointed when I saw that the pattern was not included. Years later, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the Love Sewing magazine was offering the pattern for free.

El modelo tiene un canesú con cordoncillo, otra técnica nueva para aprender, mangas abullonadas en el puño y los botones en la espalda, así que tuve la oportunidad de seguir practicando los ojales. 

The pattern has a yoke with piping, another technique to learn, full sleeves gathered at the cuffs and the buttons at the back, so I had another opportunity to practice the buttonholes.

La tela la compré en el Green Street market a una libra el metro. Es muy finita pero con paciencia no he tenido ningún problema para coserla. La corté sobre una alfombra a una capa para que no se moviera o también he visto que hay quien cubre la mesa de corte con una sábana bajera. Para los ojales reforcé la zona con una tira de entretela. El bajo esta vez lo he cogido estrecho y se ha quedado bien, no como el churro de mi blusa anterior. 

I bought the fabric for £1 per meter at the Green Street market. It is quite lightweight but handling it with patience I did not have any issues. I cut it on the rug at one layer as it is quite slippery and I believe that some people cover their cutting table with a fitted sheet as it works well too. I added a strip of interfacing to the buttonhole area to reinforce it. This time I used a narrow hem and the result was much better than my previous lightweight blouse.

Vestido de punto ::: Jersey dress

Hace poco me apunté a un curso en el Greenwich CommunityCollege para aprender a coser telas elásticas. Éramos muy poquitas en el curso así que me temo que lo cancelaron a las 3 semanas, tiempo justito para terminar mi vestido.

I recently enrolled in a course at the Greenwich Community College to learn how to sew stretch fabrics. We were only a few doing the course so I'm afraid they cancelled it after 3 weeks, just in time to finish my dress.

El patrón es de la revista Prima de mayo 2014, lo que prueba que me tomo mi tiempo jeje, pero mejor tarde que nunca.

The pattern came with the Prima magazine from May 2014, which worries me a bit in terms of my time frame to complete projects, but as we say in Spain, better late than never.

El diseño es muy sencillo, sólo tiene el detalle del fruncido bajo el pecho y la espalda, que favorece mucho. Está cosido con hilo elástico. Y no ha sido tan difícil como pensaba, hay quienes dicen que pongas el hilo muy tirante en la canilla como mi profe y otros te recomiendan que lo dejes flojo. Yo lo lié en un punto intermedio y salió bien la cosa a la primera. Se trata de hacer una prueba y ajustar si hace falta.

The design is quite simple, it only has the gathering detail under the bust and at the back, which is very flattering. It is made by shirring, which was not as complicated as I thought it was going to be. My course tutor recommended me to elastic tightly but in some blogs advise you to do is loosely. I just tried something in between and it worked in the first attempt, so just test it on a scrap and adjust if required.

Aquí tenéis el fruncido por la parte de atrás de la tela. Hice 4 líneas siguiendo el ancho del prensatelas de la máquina como separación. Como podéis ver cosí todas las líneas seguidas bajando un par de puntadas cada vez como me recomendó mi profe y quedó bien. Tambien se puede dar un punto atrás con la máquina sin problemas para asegurar la costura.

This is the shirring from the wrong side of the fabric. I sewed 4 rows using the width of the presser foot as a guide. As you can see, I sewed a continuous line pivoting and sewing a couple of stitches between rows as my tutor recommended and it worked. I backstitched at the start and the end with no issues to secure the threads.

El cuello no me salió muy allá, creo que estiré demasiado la tira y no controlé bien la remalladora. Es el primero de todas formas, ya saldrá mejor con la práctica. Seguí el tutorial de Made by Rae.

The neckline is not great, I think I pulled the neckband too much and I did not control the overlocker well. It is the first one anyway so it will get better with practice. I followed the tutorial from Made by Rae.

Para el dobladillo utilicé una puntada recta con aguja doble.

I sewed the hem with a twin needle.

Threadcount shirtdress ::: Vestido camisero Threadcount

Me gustan mucho los vestidos camiseros, son favorecedores y van muy bien para este tiempo. Encontré el patrón perfecto el año pasado con la revista Love Sewing.

I love shirtdresses, they are flattering and great for this weather. I found the perfect pattern last year with the Love Sewing magazine.

Se supone que el patrón es de nivel principiante, aunque con el cuello camisero, los puños y los ojales no lo tengo muy claro. Me tomé mi tiempo haciendo el vestido y busqué tutoriales para lo que no me cuadraba. Este tutorial de Four Square Walls me vino muy bien para el cuello. Para los puños seguí las explicaciones del libro Dressmaking de Alison Smith y para los bolsillos, al igual que con mi vestido Burda, éste de Megan Nielsen. Los ojales han quedado mucho mejor de lo que me esperaba con mi superbásica máquina de coser Alfa. Simplemente seguí las intrucciones de la máquina ,y como bien dice Momita, hice algunas pruebas en un retal.

This pattern is supposed to be for beginners but as it has a colllar, cuffs and the buttonholes I am not so sure. I took my time making the dress and searched for tutorials as required. This one from Four Square Walls was really helpful to make the collar. I followed the instructions from the Alison Smith's Dressmaking book for the cuffs and for the seam pockets, as with my Burda dress, this tutorial from Megan Nielsen did the job. The buttonholes turned out much better than I expected with my superbasic Alfa sewing machine. I just followed the sewing machine manual, and as Momita advised, I practised on a scrap of the fabric.

Vestidos de verano ::: Summer dresses

El año pasado me hice un par de vestidos de verano. El primero es de un libro genial, Stylish Dress Book Wear With Freedom de Yoshiko Tsukiori. Los libros de costura japoneses han sido todo un descubrimiento, con líneas sencillas y atemporales. Este ha sido el primero de varios.

 

Last year I made a couple of sundresses. The first one is from a great book, Stylish Dress Book Wear With Freedom by Yoshiko Tsukiori. Japanese sewing books have been a discovery, with simple and timeless patterns. This was the first book of several.

 

La tela lleva un estampado de encaje azul. La compré en el mercadillo de Benicalat, Valencia. Quizás no fuera una elección muy acertada, la verdad que me recuerda a los camisones de hospital jajaja. Si volviera a hacerlo creo que escogería una tela más oscura.

 

The fabric is printed with a blue lace pattern. I bought it in the market of Benicalat, Valencia. Perhaps it was not a very wise choice, the truth is that it reminds me of hospital gowns lol. If I were to sew it again, I would rather choose a darker fabric.

 

 

El segundo es más sesentero, evasé con pinzas francesas. El patrón venía con la revista Sew y la tela es de Tomato, Tokio.

 

The second one is 60's style, flared with french darts. I got the pattern with the Sew magazine and the fabric is from Tomato, Tokio.

Australia for crafters I

Estamos de mudanza, por eso tengo el blog un poco abandonado. Está siendo un proceso lento y penoso, hay que echarle mucha paciencia a las empresas de mensajería en Inglaterra, así que me he propuesto pensar en cosas positivas y echando la vista atrás he recordado que todavía no he compartido las fotos de las cosas que compré en Australia, así que más vale tarde que nunca y aquí van algunas de ellas.

We have moved to a new house, so I did not have time for the blog. It's been a slow and painful process, you have to have a lot of patience with courier companies in England, so I have planned to think about positive things and taking a look back I have just realised that I have not shared photos of the stuff I bought in Australia, so better late than never, here they are some of them.

Paseando por The Rocks en Sydney me encontré con esta tienda en the Nurses Walk, buttons buttons buttons. Tienen todo tipo de botones, yo no me pude resistir a estos de madera con formas de animales típicos de Australia.

Walking through The Rocks in Sydney I came across this shop in the Nurses Walk, buttons buttons buttons. They have all kinds of buttons, I could not resist these wooden ones with aussie animals shapes.

En la misma zona, The Rocks, ponen un mercadillo los sábados donde compramos este paño de cocina con una ilustración de Sydney. Tengo pensado ponerlo como cuadro, es muy bonito para usarlo para secar platos. Tienen unos diseños geniales, echad un vistazo a su web. Me despido por hoy aunque me quedan más cosas por compartir del viaje.

In the same area, The Rocks, there is a flea market on Saturdays where we bought this tea towel with a Sydney design. I think I am going to put it as picture, it's too cute to use just for drying dishes. They have some great designs, take a look at their website. Regalos para el día de la madre y juguetes jeje

Este año tengo muchos regalos pendientes, las cosas hechas a mano es lo que tiene, que llevan su tiempo. El que sí que ha hecho su regalo a tiempo es mi novio, y digo hecho porque lo ha hecho él mismo, bueno yo le he echado una manita con la flor, pero el mérito es todo suyo. Es una funda para el móvil a crochet.

Yo estoy todavía haciendo el de mi madre, de momento sólo puedo poner las tiras que dentro de poco se convertirán en un bolso, o eso espero jeje.

Aunque este fin de semana no he cosido mucho, porque hemos estado en casa de unas amigas. A una de ellas por fin le he dado su regalo de cumpleaños handmade pero por causas que iré desvelando no puedo poner fotos todavía jeje. Hoy hemos ido al rastro de Polop, y por un par de eurillos tengo un nuevo cacharro que añadir a mis trastos jeje.

Sí, sí, es una tejedora o telar jeje. Ya no hace mucho frío, pero ya lo usaré más adelante. Pongo una foto de la caja para que se vea mejor.

Oye y está intacto, lleno de polvo pero con todas sus piezas. Lo añado a mi colección de juegos que se supone que son para niños y que yo encuentro la mar de útiles jeje.

Con este anterior me hice este chal, una bufanda a mi sobrina de la que no tengo fotos y un montón de cordones con el carrete.

Así que no infravaloréis al quiminova, huertonova y similares jejeje.
