Festival of Quilts Birmingham 2013 II

Segunda entrega de los quilts del festival. Este primero es más clásico pero la combinación de colores está muy acertada.

Second chapter of the quilts from the festival. This first one is more classic but choice of colours is quite right.

¿Y qué me decís de esta pasada? Con señora empanada incluida jeje. La exposición estaba a rebosar de gente y, sin ánimo de ofender a nadie, por la media de edad aquello parecía el Inserso. Eché de menos un poco de juventud.

What do you think about the amazing next one? With a distracted lady included :)  The exhibition was packed with people and, no offense to anyone, the average age was quite high. I missed a bit of youth.

Festival of Quilts Birmingham 2013

Ayer fuimos al Festival of Quilts que se celebraba en Birmingham. Una pasada de exposición, hay mucha artista por ahí. Y había celebrities y todo, Kaffe Fassett estaba firmando libros y Stuart de Great British Sewing Bee andaba por allí también. He hecho un montón de fotos de quilts que me gustaron, los iré poniendo en varios post para no aburriros jeje. La selección es totalmente aleatoria, de hecho no tengo ni idea de qué quilt ganó.

Yesterday we went to the Festival of Quilts held in Birmingham. What an amazing exhibition, there are many artists out there. And there were celebrities and all, Kaffe Fassett was signing books and Stuart from the Great British Sewing Bee was around too. I made a lot of pictures of quilts that I liked, I will show them in several post not to bore you :) It is a complete random selection, in fact I have no clue which quilt won.

Estos colores son perfectos para un chico, y el diseño del barco está muy gracioso. ¿Y qué me decís de los de Londres? Son una pasada.
These colours are perfect for a boy and the boat design is so cute. And what do you think about the London quilts? They are amazing.

Este parece un cuadro, menudo trabajo que tiene.
The next one looks like a picture, what a great work.

Creo que el del globo es uno de mis favoritos, por los colores yo todas las piezas en relieve.
I think the air balloon quilt is one of my favourites, I love the colours and the shapes.

Invitaciones de boda handmade ::: Handmade Wedding Invitations

Nuestra boda está a la vuelta de la esquina, y aunque es prácticamente imposible organizar una boda handmade para 200 personas, hemos hecho varias cosas personalmente. Una de ellas son las invitaciones. El diseño de la tarjeta nos lo hizo la tía de Mariano siguiendo mis indicaciones. Para los sobres me inspiré en unos de Anouk Bazaar. Estos son los suyos:

Our wedding is just around the corner, and although it is practically impossible to organize a handmade wedding for 200 people, we have made several things personally. One of them is the wedding invitations. Mariano's aunt made the card design following my directions. For the envelopes I was inspired by some of Anouk Bazaar. These are hers:

 

En nuestras invitaciones he cambiado el lazo por un botón y en lugar de hacer un ojal le he puesto un trozo de baker's twine a tono. Hemos hecho más cositas pero hasta que no las vean los invitados no las puedo desvelar.

For our invitations I changed the ribbon for a button and instead of a buttonhole I sewed a piece of baker's twine. We have made more things but I can not reveal them until our guests see them.

Lazo de crochet ::: Crochet bow

Con el número anterio de la revista Mollie Makes venía un kit para hacer un broche de crochet en forma de lazo. Traía el ganchillo, hilo de algodón, la base con imperdible e instrucciones. Se hace en un ratito. Si os animáis se trata de hacer un tubo a punto bajo de unas 10 vueltas, y una tira de 3 que luego se cose alrededor para formar el lazo. La cadeneta inicial creo que eran unos 25 puntos pero podéis jugar con los números dependiendo de cómo queráis el lazo de grande.

I received a crochet bow broock kit with the previous issue of Mollie Makes magazine. It contained the crochet, cotton thread, the brooch and instructions. It's done in a while. If you are thinking about making one you will have to make a tube of approximately 10 rows of single crochet, and a strip of 3, which is then sewn around to form the bow. The first row is made of 25 chains but you can play with numbers depending on how big you want the bow.

Cremalleras ::: Zippers

Dicen que la diferencia entre el nivel principiante y el intermedio en costura es saber coser una cremallera. Tras el curso de costura del College de Nantwich el objetivo está conseguido, aunque yo me sigo considerando novata.

They say the difference between the beginner and intermediate level in sewing is knowing how to sew a zipper. After the sewing course at Nantwich College the goal is achieved, although I still consider myself a beginner.

 

Son dos estuches, Mariano ha hecho el rosa con la cremallera exterior y yo el verde. La cremallera exterior la compré en Etsy aquí. Los dos van forrados con telas coordinadas y tengo que admitir que le ha quedado mejor que a mí.

They are two pencil cases, Mariano has made the pink one with the outer zipper and I made the green one. I bought the zippers on Etsy here. Both cases are lined with coordinated fabrics and I have to admit that he has been better than me.

Bolso de búhos ::: Owl bag

Siguiendo el patrón de las clases de costura he hecho otro bolso. Este tamaño viene muy bien ahora en verano para llevarlo a la piscina. Es muy amplio, cabe la toalla y mucho más. En este caso la destinataria es una futura mamá. A la piscina no sé si lo llevará pero le va a venir muy bien para los trastos de las mellizas que están a punto de llegar. Voy a dárselo lleno de pañales y cositas para las nenas, así también es un regalo para la madre, que parece que a veces nos olvidamos de ellas.

I made another bag using the pattern from the sewing classes. This size comes handy now in summer to take it to the pool. It is very spacious, fits the towel and much more. In this case it is a present for a new mom. I am not sure if she will take it to the pool but it will be useful to carry all the stuff of the twins who are about to arrive. I am going to give it to her diapers and stuff for the girls, so it is also a gift for the mother, it seems that sometimes we forget them.

 

Como el anterior tiene un bolsillo interior y cierre magnético. Y viene otro en camino...

Camiseta de Matryoshka ::: Matryoshka T-shirt

¿A quién no le gustan las matryoshkas? Esas muñecas tan monas de alegres colores. Hay muchas telas con estampadas con este motivo últimamente y tenía muchas ganas de incluirlas en mi repertorio. Además que es la primera camiseta que hago para mí.

Materiales:

- Un paño de cocina de Matalan, 1,50 libras

- Camiseta de algodón de Matalan, 3 libras

- Papel de pegar tipo Heat&Bond que tenía por casa

- Hilo y útiles de costura

Who does not like matryoshkas? Those cute dolls in bright colors. Lately there are many fabrics printed with this motif and I really wanted to include some in my repertoire. Moreover this is the first T-shirt I have made for me.
 

Materials:
- A tea towel from Matalan, 1.50 pounds
- Cotton T-shirt from Matalan, 3 pounds
- Paper for appliqué, Heat & Bond type, that I had at home
- Thread and sewing tools
